Ombak + Great Architect at The Camel 4/27

We are pleased to announce that it will be performing on Tuesday, April 27^th at 8pm at The Camel (1621 W. Broad St.) in Richmond, VA ($5 cover). The band will be performing music from its forthcoming second full-length album and will be joined by the experimental jazz group Great Architect from North Carolina.

Great Architect is a thrilling experimental jazz group from from North Carolina. “Whether improvising freely or playing pieces with sketched-out themes, they’re vigorously exploratory and keenly disciplined, switching from controlled nuance to wild, blown-out energy and then promptly back again” (Chicago Reader). Great Architect recently put out a full-length self-titled LP on Kinnikinnik records and will be touring in support of their new 7”, to be released in April.

Tim Berne family emergency, Ray Anderson to headline RVAJazzfest

I received the sad news from Tim Berne this morning that he and his wife will be traveling to England for a family emergency and will not be able to attend RVAJazzfest. Our thoughts and condolences go out to Tim and his wife in this difficult time. Fortunately, Ray Anderson, another musical hero of mine, has graciously agreed to step in and headline the festival with Ombak. Read more at RVAJazz.
